My husband really wants leather in the living room, but I think it’s cold and uninviting!   We’ve certainly all heard that.  Husbands have been gravitating towards leather for many years and that isn’t going to change anytime soon.  Check out the recliners in any store…what are they covered in?   Usually leather.  Parts of our industry still see that as a masculine product.   There is a way to mix leather, to make him happy, with fabric to soften the look and make her happy.  I think it’s good to mix the two elements in the same room.  It gives a bit more of a relaxed feeling to the room, especially one that will see a lot of use.  Good leather, historically, should offer the client twice the life- expectance over that of fabric.  Design wise,  it gives a textured look to any room.  Soften it with a pillow, a beautiful throw.  Bringing in another natural element is always a good look.

My entire career has always revolved around furniture. I spent the first 5 years of my career as a Kaufmann’s Upholstery Buyer before opening my own furniture and design center in Oakland named Apropos Interiors and Design. After a subsequent move to the Palm Springs area where I worked as a Senior Designer at a family owned business specializing in high-end contemporary furniture I am now a proud Senior Designer at Today’s Home where I have been for almost 5 years.
