Designed Out?

Designed out? I am speaking about “What is Modern?” Modern was a style that started in 1950’s through the 60’s.The design was functional and simplistic. Colors are monochromatic grey, all white, or black. The modern style is a specific style that takes time. Many Scandinavian and European designers were mid-century because of the time frame. It is known for its geometric shapes including egg -shapes, cones, cubes and triangles. There are many “iconic” designers such as “Ray + Thomas Earnes designed a lounge chair, the tulip and egg chairs. Also, There was “ Eero Scarinen and Arne Jacobsen”

Their simple theme continues with primary, pure colors that are saturated and used along side black and white. It’s the bold look of color or just one color like white that creates a neutral palette.

“ Modern designers place the emphasizes on space not filling a space.” Each piece of furniture has functionality. Metal, wood and glass are materials that were used a lot.

Exposed brick walls, steel columns and concrete floors are details that scream modern.
