I recently had a client say I do not want any furniture with veneers because its all cheep! As many things in the furniture world looks can be deceiving and it always starts with a good foundation. Historically veneered furniture was of a higher quality, beautifully hand made by specialized craftsmen. With the invention of modern mass production machines todays manufactures vary in techniques, products and quality. Many companies use “particle boards veneered with laminates” these can be of good or poor quality and price will reflect the amount of quality materials and craftsmanship involved. True veneers were and are still created to add beauty to furnishing by slicing into thin pieces more expensive or rare wood species, metals and shells, often creating interesting patterns. These are then applied to good quality foundations such as a stable hard wood. The amount of time and effort put into this type of construction has and will be used for centuries to build the finest pieces of furnishings.
