About Freddie Bainbridge

Freddie Bainbridge

Freddie James Bainbridge believes in beauty. It is the driving force of his life. As a child he decided to teach himself how to draw, paint, create and build. Using string, fabric, sand, oil and acrylic paints, pencils, jewelry, and naiveté, several art shows later Freddie still finds beauty in simple items. Abstract art, human portraits and architectural renderings lead into a career of interior design, after graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1989, with a 4.0 and perfect attendance. Always using his hands, Freddie has been "hands on" as drafter, business owner, librarian, house painter, wallpaper remover, carpenter...his hobbies and projects only emphasize every phase of his chosen career path! Freddie has used his strict attention to detail to complete award-winning projects in hotel conversions to high-end residential; golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer with their club houses and sporting venues; banks, hospitals, restaurants and nightclubs. Every corner of the professional interior design field. Working in the floral industry in New York City helped confirm to Freddie that the design field would be his chosen path. This lead him to Pittsburgh for schooling and internships which led to jobs in Pittsburgh, Toronto, Atlanta, and much of the eastern seaboard. From a children's nursery through a president's conference room, from the medical office, to the engineers CAD station, Freddie believes that sound design is rooted in quality and good taste. The historic Mexican War Streets of Pittsburgh has been Freddie's home for almost thirty years, and he loves living in Pittsburgh! Working at Today's Home has been a perfect fit for Freddie; beautiful furnishings, quality craftsmanship, decades-old industry relationships, and people that share in the belief that "We, together, can make life more beautiful".

What is a piece of Artwork?

Written by Freddie Bainbridge, Interior Designer, North Hills on April 7, 2016

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary states that the simple definition of ARTWORK is: a painting, sculpture, photograph, etc., that is created to be beautiful or express an important idea or feeling: an artistic work.
Artwork as we see it today can differ widely from that of our ancestors or those before them! Evolution of art has changed as humans have changed. Cave art was a way of communicating basic life issues, food, housing were topics of the day. the Orient found that beauty in every aspect of life, birds, the ocean and text were all catalysts for their artwork. The Victorians had paintings of important family members and products gathered from far away lands and helped to elevate art to status symbols. Then photography and the influences of the industrial Revolution helped to usher in the ability to mass produce many types of artwork. Todays home is usually a mixture of types of artwork but no matter the medium or style beauty and expression of ideas is still the foundation of all art. Great art is in the eye of the beholder and if its a cherished drawing from your grandchild or an original Warhol enjoy and be bold! Find beauty in the paint splatters of Pollock and express your opinion and ideas, grab a glass of wine and discuss Art! When Winston Churchill was told the people needed to take funding from the arts for war efforts, he responded by questioning; If there is to be no more art, what are we fighting for?
